8x10 Premo View Camera * Rare Rochester Optical Co. Camera w/ Lens & Holder *

Here is a very rare 8x10 Rochester Optical Company Premo View Camera. The Premo View Camera was a high end English Compact style camera that was made for only a few years at the turn of the 1900's. They are seldom seen now and this one is an excellent example. The camera is made of a high end mahogany with brass fittings. It has its correct 8x10 Rochester Optical Company Premo Plantograph lens. The glass is clean and clear showing some wear. The diaphragm works. The shutter fires but does hang on 1/25 and slower speeds. The camera has its original red bellows that look great for display but do have light leaks when I checked with a flashlight. The camera extends easily from both the front and rear to a max of 30" extension but I have not tried to extend it more then shown in the photos above as I didn't want to put stress on the bellows. The ground glass back is intact. The strap is in excellent condition. I tested most of the movements and they worked fine. It comes with one original 8x10 Premo plate holder. The holder is in excellent shape and the dark slides move nicely. One side has a 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 reducer in it. The camera is lucky to have its original plate holder as the holder is a little bigger then the standard holders used today so new holders will not work with this camera. If one put film sheaths in the holder it would take film. The camera shows light wear from age but the camera was clearly well cared for. It does look like it is missing the clips to attach a tripod to the circular opening at the bottom of the camera. An amazing camera perfect for anyones collection and quite rare as I've never seen another. Please look at the many pictures above.
