Description
Realistic handmade wooden duck decoy. Date from 1900s to 1930's or thereabouts. Measures from tip of bill to end of ducktail is16 inches long by 5 3/4 inches wide. Rounded top and bottom joined together horizontally in two halves. Rounded on all sides; sits flat on bottom for floating or now display. Very old antique original nail or tack heads for eyes on both sides. Bill is all there with some aged worn holes on top, a small quarter inch chip underneath bill (that you don’t see looking at it). Head top with ancient chips probably from use, storage, or age. Back of neck at base where it attaches to the body has small age rot. Top of body with small dings, scratches, and chips. I believe the dark lines you see in photos are remnants of old paint design simulating feathers. Stabilized age crack on top of chest under bill that often happens with 80 to 120 year old wood. Bottom has two pre-drilled holes, tiny age rot on front 1/4 inch, and wear. Tail with missing section and larger chips. You can restore or repair or leave as is for display. This duck decoy has a ton of character and is really old. This is not a reproduction. If you think it is a reproduction or modern do not bid or even email me. I have been collecting and selling antiques for over 50 years and know the difference. See all photographs and details as there are no returns. No makers marks or identification. Despite issues noted above it has a great, original, antique appearance for your bookshelf, home, or office.
