Antique John Maddock & Sons Vanity Soap Shaving Bowl Jar Box Face Handles Vitrified
This is such a great Victorian soap or shaving bowl, made by John Maddock and Sons of England, and datable by the back stamp to 1896 or shortly after. The dish measures approximately 5 1/2" wide to the edges of the handles by 4.5" tall, it is in a white pottery, and has a wonderful pair of ladies heads as the handles. The finial and handles and rim are decorated in patterns of green, the whole look is very classic and period. This would be a wonderful accent piece on a dresser or vanity, you could use for soap, trinkets or as a gentleman's stud box. The box is very sturdy and in good condition for the age, there is some staining on the inside of the bowl that appears to be from some factory error glaze missing and is on the surface, and some wear/scuffing to the exterior of the bowl (see photos), otherwise just minor age appropriate wear, and no chips, cracks or other damage. Great strong Victorian look in a small and functional item, by a highly regarded English maker.
This gorgeous piece would make a lovely addition to any collection or the perfect gift for your favorite collector in your life! The item for purchase is in excellent used condition and shows minimal signs of use or wear.
