Description
In 1902, Anthony merged with Scovill and Adams, and the name of the company became Ansco. Later, in 1928, Ansco merged with Afga to become Ansco-Afga.Buster Brown was a comic book character created by Richard F. Outcault in 1902. He was adopted by the Brown Shoe Company in 1904. Buster Brown, his sweetheart Mary Jane, and dog Tige were well known in the early 20th century.
This camera is the Ansco No. 2 Folding Buster Brown camera. They were made from 1908-1915. It is a rare model. It was made of well seasoned wood, covered with seal grain composition leather, and featured heavily nickel plated metal trimmings. It was fitted with a fixed focus meniscus lens with adjustable diaphragm settings. It featured an Actus shutter with 3 speeds.
It used Ansco 4A for 6 exposures, or 4B for 12 exposures or Kodak size 120 film. It was used to make post card size exposures on roll film with a format of 2 1/4 x 4 1/4. In 1912, it originally sold for .00. That would equal 2.00 today.
There is even a roll of used film still in it. Who knows what treasures you'll find.
The leather on this camera is fairly worn all the way around the camera. It is also a bit worn on the corners. The nickel plating shows very little wear, as shown. The shutter works perfectly at all speeds, the red lens is good, the viewfinder is extraordinarily clean, extra take up spool is present, but the top carry handle is missing. Most of these old cameras have a missing carry handle. The bellows are beautiful with absolutely no pin holes of light coming through. The lens pulls out and pushes back in easily. It also locks, to push back in, just
push the release on the left.
The chrome plated parts with the black leather give this camera a truly elegant look to it.
