OPTICALLY:
User of 120 rollfilm, in 6x6cm negatives , beautiful tested condition, green filters were built into the viewfinder to see the contrast, part of the B & W days of film to aide contrast in film. You used a slip on filter green, 34mm size. Since the very early model had Greenish round eyes w/ black rims, it reminded
photographers
of, " FROG EYES". The uncoated lens means this is a lens of the immediate Post war build, left over and used on the very early Nari-ko Welmy Six model W
design
. The Terionar lens was actually made by FUJI-Ko (wartime Co. ); its a 3 element anastigmat and during the war years was made by Fuji Kogaku. After the war, most all Japanese optical makers of lenses and cameras changed their name to AVOID their former war associations. ( Period of Disgrace). So the names were changed, but the lens is the same. Only the lens ring was changed to Nari-ko. Early model W-Welmy cameras are all in the No. 26xxx serial # range, but they come in variations. Black top> Chrome top> The round windows of the viewfinder first in Black rims(Black Model W), then later chrome rims> then Nari-ko tag disappears and changed to Welmy w/ no serial no.> then a serial # added on top deck.
early version Model W . The top of the viewfinder housing shows the camera name 'Welmy' without a serial number or a model indication. The camera has a black
Narikō
metal name tag affixed on the front left. The small panel at the hinge of the struts also shows the name 'Narikō'. Its Noted by Eastwestphoto, that this camera also came in the very RARE Black top deck variation , good luck finding that variation!
Variants:
Two variants have been observed set out in chronological order (based on the progression of lens serial numbers):
with Narikō Terionar f/3.5 75mm with black bezel in Narikō shutter (T, B, 1-250). The edges of the view finder window on the top shows fine serrations
]
with Nari-kō Terionar f/3.5 75mm in fine pitched front cell focus design, with black bezel in Narikō shutter (T, B, 1-200). The top of the viewfinder housing only shows the word 'Welmy 6x6' with a serial number. The camera has a Nariko metal name tag affixed on the front left. The edges of the view finder window on the top shows fine serrations.
