    Description

KORONA VIEW FOLDING 4X5 VIEW CAMERA, EXTENSION, CUSTOM.
This fine wood folding view camera is in great working shape considering it's age (80-100 years?). It is labeled KORONA VIEW, Gundlach-Manhatten Optical Company, Rochester, NY. The serial number stamped on the bottom and on the matching extension is
    185
. It features a geared focus, geared rising front, front tilt, back swing, and tall rising back. The
mahogany wood is in excellent vintage condition, with minor scratches, mostly on the bottom. The wooden extension track (8 3/4") is included and also marked 185, bring the maximum extension to 17.5"! The metal parts are either original brass or nickel over brass. All control knobs are present and operate perfectly. The ground glass back is excellent, securely accepts all 4x5 film holders, and is easily reversible from horizontal to vertical by releasing several clips. The bellows appears to be in amazing shape, with only tiny cracks starting to form on some of the top ridges. However, no holes or leaks are evidenced in the bellows. This camera has one bellows in two sections. When not using the extension, the back part of the bellows is utilized. When attaching the extension, one unclips the front section. This feature eliminates the need for a recessed board with a wide angle lens. There are three custom features to this grand survivor. 1. A pneumatic/electric shutter has been installed. The shutter operates pneumatically, however I do not have the information to power the electronic shutter. 2. The back cabinet has been modified to include a rising back feature, that the original might not have had. This includes the addition of two vertical brass "tubes" to facilitate the rise feature. It appears so stock, and even the control knobs match the rest of the camera. I wonder if this might have been a factory option? I hope that whomever ends up with this fine American camera uses it. With a lens, a little cleanup, leather care for the bellows and light oil, it is ready to go. America does not manufacture quality photographic items like this anymore. I am not a store or collector. My goal is to offer my items as honestly and accurately as possible. Life is too precious for EBAY scams or dissatisfied buyers. There is so much more to this, so if you have questions or detailed photo requests, please ask.
