Vintage New Jersey Coast Black Duck Decoy, unknown carver

Description

This is a Black duck from Barnegat Bay on the New Jersey coast.  It had a tag on it that said, "Black Duck, hollow dugout, hand carved, about 1900 used, on Barnegat bay, Jersey white, cedar wood."  It has a rectangular inletted ballast weight and counter sunk copper tack eyes.  I've never been able to find out who made it, by looking in the books on NJ decoys.  Has some wear, nicks and scrapes, especially on its left side. A nice bird with a lot of "presence".
