Vintage Papier Mache penguin w/ Coconut Fiber "Feathers" and a Red Bow. This cute bird stands approximately 10 and 5/8 inches tall.
Made of colored coconut fibre attached to a papier mache base, we do not know the exact date, place or company responsible for the manufacture of this marvelous bird. Tom remembers seeing small coconur fiber animals in his grandfather's (who was born in the 1880s) house when Tom was a kid (early to mid-1960s). This is a much larger and more detailed sculpture than most he remembers seeing.
We believe that this has the look and feel of a late 19th / early 20th Century piece of "art for the masses"...although it could be of much more modern vintage...even into the 1980s or 90s. If you have any better information on this wonderful bird, please let us know and we'll update this post as appropriate.
Regardless of the date of its creation, this bird will add a touch of whimsy and fun to any room in which it's displayed. BUY THIS BEAUTY TODAY!
Condition
is Very Good, Used. no rips, tears, punctures, or wear in this piece. What should be the white portions of the bird's feathers is a yellow-beige color; we're not sure if that's from aging or if its the natural color of the fibers. See the photos and decide for yourself.
