Description
WATERFORD CRYSTALis a manufacturer of lead glass or "crystal", especially in cut glass. These two finials are the LISMORE Pattern, named after the city of Waterford, Ireland.
A note about Waterford
.
Waterford dates back to 1783
when George and William Penrose started their business, the Waterford Glassworks. After WW II ended in January 1946 they restarted glassmaking. In January 2009, the main Waterford Crystal base went into receivership due to insolvency of Waterford Wedgewood PLC, and in June 2010, Waterford Crystal relocated almost back to the roots of glass-making in the city centre. The Mall location melts over 750 tons of crystal a year, although most Waterford Crystal is produced outside of Ireland - and a visitors centre with the world's largest collection of Waterford Crystal. As of 2015, the brand if owned by the Fiskard Corporation.
These two finials are in the Lismore Pattern, 3.5 inches tall. Approximately 1.5 inches wide, with the metal mechanism being brass in nature. As you can see from the last two photographs, the finials did not compliment the lamps -- to high and the Waterford lamps were in the Ginger Jar style (Asian), not at all complementary. My search continues.
These will be an addition to your lamp, your home, your crystal collection by one of the oldest artistic producing companies.
